Having worked in Placement Facilitation for over a decade across multiple Universities and in a variety of Private and Public Sector organisations Carys and her team have supported 500+ students (successfully and unsuccessfully) through placements.
From this we have learnt ways to maximise the impact of student placements to the benefit of the provider, whilst offering a cost-effective and efficient model for Private Practices/ Charities / Sports Clubs to take students into their workplaces to benefit them and their service users as well as educate the next generation in skills they may not see in other sectors.
From any size of organisation we can adapt a model to suit everyone to provide a great learning opportunity for students, as well as an efficient way for educators to integrate having students into their day-to-day practice.
Without twisting anyone’s arm
We all know for the future of Allied Health Professionals to be successful they need to be getting experience in a range of Sectors, and for future provision of University places approved by Professional bodies there needs to be enough Practice Placements to support student numbers.
Recruitment into different sectors on graduation can also be an issue – so via student placements providers may also be helping solve their own future recruitment issues.
Therefore, it is win-win for all parties to get placement provision expanded into non-NHS Sectors.
A weekly charge for placements
is made to the Student / University
We take a % of this as commission depending on the level of support needed for Placement Facilitation.
Allied Health (HEE Funding) vs Non-Allied Health (Non-HEE Funding)
Allied Health Professions – HEE Funding via University
As Allied Health Profession placements come with HEE tariff funding the University is invoiced directly for the students on placement.
Below are the current rates for all Allied Health Professions (per student per week)
£135.56
Non-Allied Health Professions – Funding via University / Student
Unfortunately HEE funding does not extend beyond Allied Health Professions currently, so placement funding will need to come from University budgets or Students directly.
However, to keep things fair, for any non-Allied Health Professions looking for Placement opportunities we will price match the HEE Tarriff rates in what we charge for taking the students.
e.g Sports Therapy = same weekly rate as Physiotherapy
In order for placements to be viable a minimum of 5 weeks funding is required. This also covers, for example the full 200 hours needed for Sport Therapy students (5.4 weeks of a 37.5 hour week = 202 hrs = £732.02)
Payment Schedule:
-
25% Up front to secure placement
-
50% Halfway through placement
-
Full settlement on completion of placement
We appreciate this may incur a cost to the students directly, but have worked with several students and Universities in the past that feel the investment is very worthwhile for the experience they receive.
